 Respecting the Grant of the Isle of Mann, 1405

RESPECTING THE GRANT OF THE ISLE OF MANN,

A.D. 1405.

THE King to his beloved and faithful William Stanley, Knight, or his Lieutenant in the Isle of Man, Greeting.

Whereas we lately, by our letters patent, entrusted to our beloved and faithful John Stanley, Chivaler, the Castle, Peel, and dominion of Man, and all Islands and Dominions belonging to the said Island of Man, together with the royalties, regalities, franchises, and all other profits and commodities specified in our said letters for our benefit, safety, and security to keep it during our pleasure.

And since moreover by our other letters patent we have conceded of our special grace to the same John the Island, Castle, Pele, and Lordship aforesaid, and all the islands and domains belonging to the said Island of Man, together with the Royalties, Regalities, Franchises, and Liberties, and all and every other, the profits and commodities appertaining and belonging to the said Island, Castle, Pele, and Lordship whatsoever, to have and to hold for the term of his life, according as is expressed in our last letters to the said John and fully set forth.

We therefore command and enjoin you, as strictly as possible, by your fidelity and allegiance, that ye deliver to the same John, or to his Attorney in that place, the Island, Castle, Pele, and Dominion aforesaid, together with the Islands and Domains belonging to the said Island of Man, together with the royalties, regalities, franchises, and liberties, and all and every other the profits, and commodities aforesaid, according to the tenor of our last letters despatched thence, and that ye admit nothing contrary to the tenor of the same.

We decree that henceforth ye be exonerated towards us. Witness the King at . . . . the fourth day of October.

REX dilecto et fideli suo, Willielmo Stanley Chivaler, vel ejus Locumtenenti in Insula de Man, Salutem.

Licet nuper, per Literas nostras Pateutes, conimiserimus vobis, ac, dilecto et fideli nostro, Johanni Stanley Chivaler, Insulain, Castrum, Pelam, et Dominitnn de Man, ac omria Insulas et Dominia eidem Insula de Man pertinentia, una cum lhegaliis, Realitatibus, Franchesiis et Libertatibus, ac omnibus aliis Proficuis et Commoditatibus, in dietis Literis nostris speeificatis, ad opus nostrum salvo et secure, quamdiu nobis placuerit, Custodienda.

Quia tamen postmodum, per alias Literas nostras Patentes, de Gratia rostra speciali, Concessimus eidem Johanni Insulam, Castrum, Pelam et Dominium prædicta, ac omria Insulas et Dominia eidem Insulæ de Man pertinentia, una cum Regaliis, Regalitatibus, hranchesiis, et Libertatibus ac omnibus aliis Proficuis et Commoditatibus, eisdem Iusrrlæ, Castro, Pelæ, et Dominio qualitercumque spectantibus sive pertinentibus, Habenda pro Termino Vitæ suæ, prout in diucis ultimis Literis nostris, eidem Johanni factis, plenius continentur.

Vobis, sub Fide et Ligentia vestris, distrietius quo possumus, Injungimus et Mandamus quod eidem Johanni, ant ejus in hac parte Attornato, Insulam, Castrum, Pelam, et Dominium prædicta, a Insulas et Dominia, eidem Insulæ de Man pertinentia una cum Regaliis, Regalitatibus, Franchesiis, et Libertatibus, ac omnibus aliis Proficuis et Commoditatibus prædictis, liberttis, et ipsum illa habere permittatis, jnzta Tenoruro dictaruni ultimarum Literarum nostrarum, sigi sic inde confectarum; vos inde, contra Tenoren earumdem, nullatenus intromittentes; Volumus enim vos inde erga Nos etonerari. Teste liege apud.
