From Manx Soc vol IV,VII & IX
FORASMUCH that sir Henry de Beaumont has taken from our Lord the King, to the injury and dishonour of the King, from the time of the ordinance of the decrees, to which the King himself assented, the Kingdom of Man and other lands, rents, franchises, and bailliwicks, and procured from the donor both other lands and tenements, franchises, and bailliwicks, contrary to that ordinance, and because he gave bad counsel to the King contrary to his oath. We decree that he be removed from the Council of the King forever, and from near the King's person, and that he be not summoned to Parliament, or in war, if the King wills it, unless it be by the general assent of the Archbishops, Bishops, Counts, and Barons, and these in full Parliament; and all the other lands that he holds within the Kingdom of England, be taken into the hands of the King of England, and held so long as that the King will have received of the issues of those lands, the value of all the worth the said Sir Henry has taken from the lands, and received contrary to the said decree. And if the aforesaid Sir Henry act in any manner contrary to this ordinance, he be disinherited for ever of all lands that he holds in England, the gift of the King. For it is found by the investigation of the Prelates, Counts, and Barons, that Lady De Vescy had induced the King to give to Sir Henry De Beaumont her brother, other lands, franchises, and bailliwicks, to the injury and dishonour of the King, and part disinheriting of the crown, and also procured from the donor letters of protection, contrary to law and the intention of the King. We decree that she be banished to her family, and that within fifteen days from, St. Michael next to come, without returning to St. James's Court to live. And for all these things aforesaid, and for that he held the Castle of Baunburgh from the crown, We ordain likewise that this castle be retaken from him into the hands of the King, and that it be not delivered to him, nor to any other person except the King wills it. |
