The Imperial War Museum, London, sponsored by the UK National Heritage Memorial Fund have recently announced the completion of the UK National Inventory of War Memorials. This survey also includes those on the Isle of Man, information about which was collected by Roger Christian to whom acknowledgement is made for access to the list from which this summary is made.
The Inventory records the geographical location, physical appearance and wording - it also includes the historical background such as who funded them, designed and unveiled them. The inventory is in the form of a computer database currently holding some 42,000 records collected since the start of the Inventory in 1990. Note that this database does not include data about individual graves The database was publicly launched on 8 November 2001, search terminals are available at the Imperial War Museum and it is hoped via the Internet, to allow searches for specific names.
RoH = Roll of Honour which may record all those who served.
