Notes

This is the first section of the second volume of SP 42 which covers the period 1773-1783 - the 1st volume is calendared as are the first 28 pages of this bound volume; each leaf of the bound volume is numbered (this is the page number in above table), the first page of each document is also sequentially numbered up to 'page' 60 (document 38) this being the final document in 1776. Some documents are enclosed with others - usually noted as [enc].

The dates are ISO standard format year month day;
the key persons are:
Lord Suffolk - Secretary of State at Home Office for the northern district
Henry Hope - senior Army Officer on Island temporarily appointed Lt Governor during illness of Governor Wood
Richard Dawson - appointed Lt Governor when Capt Hope was recalled to his Regiment, later Lt Govr under Govr Smith
John Wood - originally appointed Governor by last Atholl Lord and continued in post by Westminster
Charles Lutwidge - appointed by Treasury as Receiver General
Wadsworth Busk - appointed Attorney-General of Island in 1774;
