Index to Transcribed John Taubman Documents

The Manx Museum holds a large archive of papers presented by the Goldie-Taubman family - the earliest documents are those relating to John Taubman, a significant merchant in the 20 years prior to the 1765 revestment and in the 30 years post, as well as being a major player in the politics rising to be speaker of the House of Keys. One of these documents is the Letter Book of John Taubman, who like most merchants kept a ledger into which copies of important letters were made. This sole surviving book starts shortly after revestment and continues until shortly before Taubman's death in 1799.

Though the wording and spelling is that of the original, I have in places altered the capitalisation common in documents of this period - I have in a few places added punctuation and occasional italicisation and expansion of contractions to clarify the text. At present none of these documents are digitised. The Notes section appended to the documents is my own comment and cross-linkage to other documents.
