Complains that Mr.Hammersley will not answer his letters about Manx affairs, to the prejudice of the Duke's affairs there. Encloses a petition for naturalization from Robt.Gordon,a merchant of Douglas, and "a relation of ny Lord Kenmure". A new kind of trade has begun with the arrival of a ship from Bordeaux with some 1,200 Hogsheads of Claret for the West Indies. |

Parson Crebbin "a wicked sad dog" whose appeal has been dismissed in London, is now in the Castle, where he will remain a month and pay a fine. |

of Quayle v. Quayle, Farrant v. Maddrell and Cochrane v. Stevenson. The
latter case (Contempt of Court by John Stevenson) was adjourned in the hope that the parties might come to a settlement based on his fine being returned to him and his suspension taken off. By this the Gov. will save expense,and Stevenson his ears,suffering only the imprisonment he has already undergone. Parson Crebbin's appeal ageinst his fine and imprisonment was held over,as were several other. + -.8.1760 Gov. Cochrane to H.Hamersley Mr Stevenson's contempt is so serious and long standing that he feels he must defend the Magistrates and Judges against such conduct. He therefor wishes the case to go on. |

Case relating to the French Privateer "St.Lawrence" of Bayonne,a brig of 26 guns and 98 men. This ship was brought into Dougles on the 9th Nov.1760 by the crews of four British ships which she had captured, and being imprisoned on her rose and captured her. The Duke's officers in the I.O.M. have now seized her,landed her guns and stores and hold her crew as prisoners but not knowing how to proceed further ask for instructions. |
