| AP_34(A)_2 | 16.7.1595 | The Earl and Countess of Derby appoint four Commissioners to visit the
I.O.M. and search the Records for papers relating to the Title to the Island.
Any such papers found to be sent, to the'Rolls Chappell in Chancerie Lane,London'
for safe custody. Certificate from the Commissioners and various Manx Officials that search was made in the Treasury at Castle Rushen Aug. 1695 but that the only paper concerning title found was 'a Counterpayne in parchment' dated 16th Sept.in the VIII year of King Henry VIIIth. Of this they had a copy made,which they took,returning the original to the Treasury the door of which was then fastened and sealed... They then searched in Peel Castle,but without result. They then certify that no other place where such documents are likely to be is known. |
