(These show the basis upon.which Heywood was engaged,and how the Duke became dissatisfied with his work and perticularly with the number of involved lawsuits in which he became entangled. Failing to render accounts the Duke at last lost patience and called for a settlement,going to the Island in person to obtain it. After various delays and evasive actions this was obtained,as shown in AP_122(4th)_20. After investigation by Mr.Farquhar many of the charges were disallowed the nett result being to show a balance due to the Duke of £3,043.17.0 Manks. As the Duke after this doubted not only his ability,but also his honesty,he decided to dismiss him N.M.) |
