[Appendix A(37) 1792 Report of Commissioners of Inquiry]
The EXAMINATION of ALEXANDER SHAW, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor the Isle of Man, taken at Douglas the 28th Day of September 1791;
[Examined by His Grace the Duke of ATHOLL.]
THIS Examinant saith, That fence the year 1765 the Isle and Castle of Peele has been held as a perquisite by the Governor, and that it is at present; and for some time has been, occupied by the High Bailiff of Peele, who has annually paid a lamb, or some such small consideration; to the Governor; as an acknowledgment. He cannot conceive that the possession of the Isle and Castle of Peele by Government can in any way contribute to the prevention or detection of illlicit practices:
ALEXANDER SHAW
Jno Spranger.
Wm Osgoode.
Willm Roe.
David Reid.
