Episcopal Will 1867, of Thomas Oates, Santan, made 30 Oct 1866:

"This is the last will and testament of Thomas Oates, of the Post Office in the parish of Santon in the Isle of Man. I leave and bequeath unto my son James Oates the sum of one pound as legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my son William Oates the sum of one pound as a legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my son Robert Oates the sum of one pound as a legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my son Thomas Oates the sum of one pound as legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my son John Oates the sum of five shillings as a legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my son Henry Oates the sum of one pound as legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Oates the sum of fifty pounds as legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Catherin Oates the sum of fifty pounds as a legacy. I leave and bequeath unto Margaret Taggart my daughter the sum of five shillings as a legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Esther Kinvig the sum of five shillings as a legacy. I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Jane Cain the sum of ten pounds as a legacy. And I hereby direct that the foregoing legacies shall not be paid until the death of my Executrix hereinafter named. I leave, devise and bequeath unto my wife Catherine Oates all and singular my dwelling house, our houses, garden, yard and premises situate in the parish of Santon at present occupied by myself; bounded on the north east by the property of Francis Matthews, Esquire, at the south west and south east by the property of the late Frederick Brew Clucas, Esquire, and on the north west by the Castletown Road—To hold unto my said wife Catherine Oates her heirs and assigns absolutely forever. And I hereby nominate, constituted and appoint my said wife Catherine Oates sole executrix of this my Will and Residuary Legatee of all my Estate, real and personal, not hereinbefore named. And thereby declare this paper writing to be my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this thirtieth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty six. [signed his mark] Thomas Oates. Signed published and declared by the Testator to be his Las Will and Testament in our presence: Geo. Maley and James Mcglanhan.

At a Chapter Court holed at Castletown on the 1st day of November 1867: George Maley one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Thomas Oates deceased having made oath upon the Holy Evangelists that said Thomas Oates, the testator, when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed and executed the same as and for his last Will and Testament in his presence and in the presence of James McGlashan the other subscribed witness thereto Catherine Oates widow the relict of said deceased the sole executrix named therein is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute said will according to Law by paying the just debts and funeral expenses of the deceased and the legacies contained in his will so far forth as his goods and effects will thereto extend and the law bind here and to return unto the Episcopal Registry of this Diocese a full true and perfect inventory of all and singular his said estate and effects with an accurate account of her acts and proceedings in the premises when thereunto lawfully required. And to these ends she hath given pledges names Robert Kermode and William Karran Kermode both of Douglas in the parish of Braddon who have entered unto and executed the usual round in the presence of the Court. Probatum est R. Jebb?.

1895: Received from James Oates Executor to Catherine Oates will the sum of fifty pounds with interest being a legacy left to my late wife Annie Moore (nee) Oates by her father Thomas Oates and I hereby release the Executor James Oates from all further liability to me in this matter. Signed William Thos. Moore, July 20, 1895. Witness: Edith E. Oates."
