"In the name of God, Amen. I Edward Gawne of Ballagawn in the parish of KK Christ Church Rushen, gentleman, being of sound mind, memory and understanding and considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do make my last will and testament in manner following. First, I commit my soul to Almighty God and my body to the earth, hoping for a joyful resurrection after death through the merits and intercession of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Secondly, I leave and bequeath my eldest son Thomas Gawne a team of four oxen. Thirdly, I leave and bequeath to my son Edward Gawne the sum of twenty pounds. Fourthly I leave and bequeath to my daughter Jane Shuttleworth otherwise Gawne the sum of two hundred pounds .. therein such sum and .. as I have advanced to her or for her acconsit[or anousit?] and .. appear charged against her in my book in my own handwriting. Fifthly, I leave and bequest to my daughter Elizabeth Gawne the sum of two hundred pounds. Sixthly, I leave to my daughter Esther Gawne the sum of two hundred pounds. And lastly, I leave and bequeath to my loving wife Jane Gawne all the residue and .. of all my goods, chattels, .. and effects after payment of my debts and legacies. I do appoint her the said jane Gawne my wife sole executor of this my last will and testament and also supervisor of such of my children aforesaid as may not have attained to the age of twenty one years at the time of my death. In testimony whereof I the said Edward Gawne have hereunto subscribed my name this 25th day of October in the year of our Lord 1790. [signed] Edwd. Gawne.
