Ostend 10th January 1784
Dear Sir
I long wished to have the pleasure of calling on
you since my departure, which I hope will yet happen.
I have been just now informed, by a young gentleman from
Msr: Hayman & Foxes house, that Edward Corlett from the
Leane Hoaie in the parish of Kk Andreas, who I was intimately
acquainted with, had been some time in their employ, and
having at present a property of his in their hand, & knowing
from some circumstances & long absence, that he had been lost
with Capt Storiey (?) - and wishes to his find out the nearest relations
of the deceased, who are intitled to his property, which is upwards
of £200 sterling, and as you are not far from that neighbourhood,
thought it more desireable to request your favour in making
the necesary enquiry rather than they should advertize, and as
perhaps you may know them, as also acquainted with the
spiritual laws, may give the needfull directions to administer
and cause such legal discharge to those gentlemen as paymnt
as may indemnifie them, when they may be asured of the
greatest justice done them to the utmost farthing, the sooner they
administer the better, and may advise those gentlemen
thereof, who no doubt will remit the amt there or to where
the excrs may chust, which would save them a considerable
expence in coming over, they may be asured that the sam[e]
justice will be done as if they were on this spot -
please my complimts to Mrs Christian your good family
and all enquiring friends in wishing you all many go[od]
returns of the season (which is rather late).
I remain
dear sir
most respectfully your asured hbl servant
Jno Kneen
NB those gentlemens adress is Mesrs Hayman & Fox Merchts Ostend
