: "The last will and testament of Margt Oates als Cowley who was buried on or about the 15th day of April 1777, being of sound and perfect mind and memory at the making hereof. She committed her soul to God and her body to Christian burial. She left to her son John Oates, and her daughters Elizabeth, Isabel, and Catharine, six pence each. She left to her daughter Jane a small pott. She left to her daughter in law Mary Oates a little wheel and a check apron. Lastly, she nominated and appointed her loving husband John Oates whole and sole executor of all the rest of her goods and effects movable and immovable of what kind or denomination soever. Witnesses: William Cottier & Phillip Cottier.
At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas June 10th 1777: The Executor is sworn in Court in form of Law and hath given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies namely Wm Cottier & Philip Cottier the witnesses of the Will"
