"This is affirmed to be the last will and testament of Dorothy Oates als Cowle
of Peeltown, who departed this life on or about the 14th of January
1771, being of sound mind and perfect memory at the uttering hereof.
First, she committed her soul unto Almighty God, and her body to the earth and
Christian burial.
Item, she left to her grandaughter Ellinor Oates of Ramsey five shillings.
Item, she left to her grandchild Isabel Oates her feather bed and bed clothes.
Item, she left to her grandchildren Margret and Ellinor Oates her wearing apparal.
Item, she left to her daughter in law Isabel Oates twenty shillings.
And lastly, she nominated and appointed her son William Oates whole and sole
executor of all the rest of her effects moveable and immoveable of what kind
or nature whatsoever and excluding any other friend or relation claiminit in
her will with six pence legacy each.
In witness whereof we have signed our names this 24th of January
1771. Witnesses: John Callister, William Crellin.
At a Court of Correction holden at Peeltown, 1 February 1771: The executor is sworn in court in form of law and hath given pledges for the payments of debts and legacies namely the witnesses of the will."
