Archdeacon Wills 1766 #37, Lezayre, of William Lace of Lezayre:

‘In the name of God, amen. I William Lace of the parish of KK Christ Lezayre being sick and weak in body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for it, do make this my last will and testament in manner following. First, I commend my soul to God who gave it and my body to Christian burial. Item, I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Mary my Bible and old common prayer book with six pence legacy. Item, I leave and bequeath to my two grandchildren William and Ann Tear a crown apiece legacy to clothe them. Item, I leave and bequeath unto my son in law Dan Tear my old wearing clothes, vizt., coat vest and cloth breeches. Item, I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Ann the sum of seven pounds legacy with my new common prayer book and another book called Sherlock on Death. Item, I leave and bequeath unto my loving wife my part of the bed whereon we lie with bed and bed clothes and also my part of a little heifer vizt, the largest of the two. Lastly, I constitute, nominate, and appoint my loving friend William Lace of KerrooDoo in the parish of KK Bride my sole and whole executor of all the rest of my goods movable and immovable of what kind or nature soever, and to the witnesses of my will 12 pence each. [signed] Wm Lace. Witnesses: John Camaish, Wm Kewn.

At a Consistory Court holden at KK Michael 13th March 1766, The executor is sworn in Court in form of Law and hath given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies, namely, Mr. Thomas Fargher, ShenValla in Malew and William Radcliffe BallaRadcliffe in KK Andreas. The widow is sworn to rend a just account of her husband’s goods and effects to the executor.

I Daniel Teare husband of Mary Teare als Lace of the parish of KK Andreas daughter of the within named testator William Lace do hereby acknowledge to have received from William Lace of Kerroodoo in the parish of KK bride the executor of the last will and testament of the said William Lace late of KK Christ Lezayre the Bible, old Common Prayer Book with the six pence legacy left and bequeathed unto my wife Mary by her said father, as also to have received from the said executor my said father in law’s old wearing clothes, vizt, coat, vest and cloth breeches which he my said father in law left and bequeathed unto me Daniel Teare, and I do hereby release, acquit and discharge the said William Lace of Kerroodoo aforesaid the executor of the said last will and testament and his executors, administrators and assigns thereof forever. As witness my mark to my name at Lezayre this 31st March 1766. [signed his mark] Daniel Teare.

I Anne Lace daughter of the within named Testator William Lace do hereby acknowledge to have received of and from the hands of William Lace of Kerroodoo in the parish of KK Bride, executor of the said William Lace’s last will and testament the full and just sum of sever pounds being the legacy left and bequeathed unto me by my said father, and I do hereby release and acquit the said William Lace his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns of the said seven pounds legacy as also of the two books, vizt., the Common Prayer Book and Sherlock Upon Death, forever. As witness my mark to my name this 21st December 1768. [signed her mark] Anne Lace.’
