This is affirmed to be the last will and testament of Mr John Murray some time ago Deputy Searcher in Peeltown. Declared by him before us in the house of Mr Peter Quirk in Peeltown on this the 8th day of August 1765 (which said Murray departed this life on the 15 day of August) He bequeathed to the Poor of Peeltown fourty (?) guineas He bequeathed to the Harbour of Peeltown ten guineas He bequeathed to his Grace the Duke of Athol thirty guineas to be disposed of in whatsoever manner his Grace thought proper saying in respect of this bequest that he had been a long time employed under the Duke of Athol and lest thro error or inadvertence he had done him any injury he therefore did it for that reason He bequeathed to Mr Charles Murray riding surveyor at Wigton twenty pounds british value. He bequeathed to Alexander Murray gauger in the excise in Scotland ten guineas. He bequeathed to Ann Arthur alias Murray, who called herself after him ten pounds british value. He lastly nominated appointed and constituted Alice Murray, his natural daughter sole executrix of the remainder of his effects willing her to be under the care and direction of an honest man and Samuel Cowl, who lives in Ballaquain near Peeltown, being mentioned to him for that purpose, he declared him to be a good man and named no other. All which we certify and witness accordingly Henry Corlett George Moore The Reverend Mr Henry Corlett and Mr George Moore the subscribing witnesses to the above declarations have made oath on the Holy Evangelists that Mr John Murray was of sound and disposing mind and memory when he published and declared the same as his last will and testament
