The last will and testament of William Oates senior in Peeltown, being of sound perfect mind and memory at the uttering hereof this 7th January 1762. First, he committed his soul to Almighty God, and his body to the earth and Christian burial. Item, he bequeathed and left his share or half of the house and garden in Peeltown unto his son Johns daughter Eleanor with half a big oak chest for a xxx and forty shillings in cash, by reason, his said son John sent him money to build the said house, and it is proved in case the said Eleanor Oates dies that the said half of said house and garden is to fall and descend unto John Oates her father provided he comes home from abroad, and in case said Eleanor die, if John Oates has any more children with hs present wife the said legacy is to fall and descend unto them And it is further provided that in case they all should die that said legacy is to descend unto his two grandchildren Matthias & William Oates (his son Williams children), and Lastly, he nominated and appointed his dear and loving wife Dorothy Oates whole and sole executrix of the rest of his effects moveable and immoveable of what kind or nature soever, she giving ten shillings unto her son William Oates for assisting the mother to see him decently buried and excluding all other cravers first with six pence legacy each, with twelve pence each the witnesses of this his will. In witness whereof we have annexed our names & marks to our names dated above. Witnesses William Crellin, John Caine.
At a Chapter Court holden at Ballnahown 12th November 1762, the exeuctrix is sworn in Court in form of Law and hath given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies namely William Crellin and John Caine both of Peeltown the witnesses of the will.
