Edward Christian of Lewaigue perished by water in the KK Santan River on or about the 23rd day of Novr last Intestate. The Court upon intelligence thereof hath decreed his five children namely John, Ewan, Ellinor, Edward & Robert Christian joint administrators of all his goods & chattels moveable & immoveable whatsoever. The three latter being underage, and John and Ewan, tho at age, yet too young to undertake the charge of their share of the goods, whereupon John the eldest son has made choice of Capt Wm Christian & the Revd Thos Woods both of KK Maughold to be his guardians and supervisors, and Ewan had chosen his uncle Ewan Christian and his mother, Mary Christian to be his guardians and supervisors which said guardians and supervisors are accordingly sworn in form of Law and have the share of goods due their respective Wards committed unto them, who with the said John & Ewan agree and consent that the dead's part of the children under age and their goods be committed to the tuition of their mother, who is accordingly sworn supervisor of said orphans in for of Law, and she with Capt Wm Christian, the Revd Mr Woods & Ewan Christian aforesaid are likewise sworn to bring a perfect inventory to the registry as also for payment of debts according to Law, and have given pledges namely Edwd Allen of Ramsey and John Gill of Lezayre, a legacy to the widow on sight of the clear inventory.
Annex to the decree of Edwd Christian at a Consistory Court holden at Lezayre, June 26, 1760: Capt Wm Christian one of the guardians & supervisors of John Christian eldest son and heir of Edwd Christian, having lately departed this life, said John has now made choice of Capt Matths. Christian to be his guardian and supervisor, in the place and stead of said Capt Wm Christian deceased. Whereupon he the said Capt Matths. Christian is sworn in form of Law.
Letter, KK Maughold, Mar 8, 1761: Mrs. Christian of Lewaigue proposed waiting on you tomorrow with the inventory as far perfected . . . I am in hopes that the account sales of Capt Wm Christian's goods, with his cash interest of whatever denomination, will amount to about 300 pounds, exclusive of the 100 pounds which she thinks is her own reserved right . . . signed Tho. At Peeltown, ?date: John Christian of Lewaigue being arrived to lawful age has made choice of the Revd James Wilks to be his guardian & next friend for the conducting and managing . . .
Date 26 March 1760: Whereas I John Christian of Lewaigue in the Parish of Maughold have elected & nominated the Revd Tho. W. J. Woods & Captn William Christian of said parish my guardians . . . signed John Christian.
