Episcopal Wills 1756 Maughold #1, of Charles Cowle

Ramsey Feb 16 1756
Charles Cowle perished by sea on the coast of
Scotland on or about the 13th of Septr last & intestate
The Court upon intelligence thereof decrees
his seven children namely - Cath, Chas, Margt,
Isabel, Ann, Jane & Willm Cowle joint Adminors
of all his goods & chattells moveable & imoveable
whatsoever - the six latter being underage, & the
eldest uncapable to undertake the charge, the
uncles by the fathers side namely William Cry, Willm,
Saul & John Cowle are sworn supervisors & have
the deads part of the children & their goods committed
unto them, who are accordingly sworn for
payment of debts, as also to bring to the registry
a perfect inventory - pledges in form of law are
the one for the other of sd supervisors - the widow
is likewise sworn to render a just acct

Chas Xowle for £5-0-0 & craves the law
Mar 31 Ja Joughin claims for 0-14
1757 mar 16 Willm Christian an alledged transmarine enters
a claim agt the admrs of Chas Cowle for £7-0-0
At Kk Patrick May 27th 1780
Philip Tear husband of Margt Cowle one of
the admors of Chas Cowle has this day acknowledged to have
revd from the widow of the intestate the moity or dividend
of the sd intestates effects due unto his said wife and
hereby acquits exonerates & dischages the sd widow & every
other person of the same & every debt thereof as witness
his name the day above written Phillip Tear
This before me Ev Christian
Jane Cowle another admor has acknowledged
to have recd her dividend of the sd effects and hereby
acquits her mother and every other person of the same &
every part thereof as witness her name & mark the
day above written  - Jane Cowle my mark x

Atrue inventory of the goods of Charles Cowle apprizd by
Robert Moore, John Gawn, John Kneen, & William Lace, being
four sworn men by Thos Kermoad sumnr of Kk Maughold 
...
Note also there is a house & backside of three pence
Lord's rent the deads part whereof to be forthcoming
for the children provided the same be free & debtless
....


One of some 20 mariners who perished in September/October 1755 whilst engaged in the running trade.
