In the Name of God Amen I Katherine Qualtrough
als Waterson Relict of William Qualtrough of Renwollin in the Parish of Trinity Rushen being of sound …
& disposing /\? & perfect memory & mindful of the instability
of this uncertain Life do make this my Last Will
& Testament & in making form as hereafter mentioned:
First: I commend my soul to God & my Body to Christian Buriall
hoping through the merits of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ
to obtain pardon & Redemshion of all my Sins & a joyful
Resurrection to everlasting Life. And as for the
worldly Goods & Effects wherewith it hath pleased God
to bless me I bequeath & dispose off them as they are
in my last will hereafter set forth – Imp I give
& bequeath to the Poor of the Parish of Trinity Rushen
thirty shillings to be distributed to the most needy of them
within that Parish according to the Discretion of my
Exetrs hereafter named. Itm I leave & bequeath to the
poor of the Town of Castletown twenty shillings willing
& requiring my exectrs to distribute both these Bequests to the
Poor at Easter imediately after my Decease – Itm I give
& bequeath forever as an additional subsistence for the
Vicar or Curate of the Parish of Trinity Rushen for the
time being, the sum of fifteen pounds, wch sum I have
secure’d by a Mortgage from William Mylchreest on
a new erected Corn Miln situate in the Parish of Malew
in that the Rt Revd the Lord Bishop & his Vicars General
for the time being may be graciously pleased to see &
give order that the yearly intrest of this my poor
Benefaction to that Vicarage may be only apply’d
from time to time as the same ….. become one to
the particular use of the vicar or curate of that
parish for the time being according to the intention
of this my last will. I leave & bequeath to Anne
Mcylvorrey of KK Xt Rushen the half of my Dwellings & lease??
of the Dwelling House in Castletown, viz the Kitchen – end
& Room over it, with half the back side, half the Brew
House and half the Garden there unto belonging with half of
… Easements appertaining And the other Half of the
said Dwelling House with the other Half of the Brew House
& Backside garden & half the Easemt thereunto I leave to
Thomas Waterson, son of my Nephew Thomas Waterson
of Castletown. Itm To Isabel Nelson als Calister of Balla
Killey in KK Xt Rushen I leave three pounds. To Marjery
Gawn als Qualtrough, widow of John Gawn my large Iron
Pot. To Elinor Tear als Taylor, my god daughter now of KK
Andreas I leave thirty shillings. To William Watersons son
of BallaHayme? my kinsman I leave twenty shillings
To his sons Thomas & John I leave each of them twenty
Shillings To Marjery Calow als Gawn Relict of Edward
Calow late of Castletown I leave three pounds. To Elinor
Carin als Qualtrough of KK Xt Rushen I leave thirty shills.
To William Martin of Ramsey & 2 daughters five pounds
equally betwixt them. To the three daughters of James
Curlet of the sd Town three pounds equally betwixt them
To Harry Mcylworrey of Peeltown I Bequeath thirty shills
To John Bridson son of my Niece Jane Bridson of Castle
town I leave three pounds. To my Niece Jane Bridson,
wife of Thos Bridson I leave half the Garden called
Richard Halsals Garden To my Nephew Thos Waterson
I leave the other Half of the sd Halsals garden. To my
relation Harry Waterson of Dublin I leave Fifty Shills.
To Thomas Clucas of Porters Rowe, Dublin I leave
fifty shillings. To my Niece Margaret Waterson widow
of John Waterson Castletowne, I leave five pounds
To Christin Cubon & Mary Cubon daughtrs of Mary Cubon
als Christian deceas’d I leave three pounds equally betwixt
them. To Alice Clark als Qualtrough wid. now at the
Great Miln near Castletown I leave thirty shillings.
Itm To Margaret Kermod (daughtr of John (xd out) Kermod of
Castletown (xd out ) deceas’d) my kinswoman, I leave forty shills.
Itm To Katharine Calow (daughtr of Wm Calow
Of BallaGlass in Maughold Parish ) now of Castletown
I leave twenty shills. – To Margaret Calister (daughtr
of Daniel Calister deceas’d) my kinswoman, I leave twenty
shillings To Peter & John sons of my Nephew
Thomas Waterson of Castletown I leave four
pounds equally betwixt them. To my god-daughter
Isabel Kissack daughter of William Kissack of
Laxey I leave twenty shillings.To Harry
Qualtrough of Kentraugh Miln I leave
five pounds. I give and bequeath unto his Brother
John Qualtrough of Balla-kill-Patrick ……..
all whatever money he is indebted unto me.
To Ann Corrin als Crebbin wife of Harry Corrin
Of Port Ern I leave twenty shillings . To my god
son John Waterson of Cregneash & Katharine his wife
I leave thirty shillings. To my God daughter Katharine Gawn daughter
of Harry Gawn of Cregneash I bequeath twenty shillings.
To the eldest daughter of my kinsman John Cottiman of
Douglas deceas’d I leave three pounds. To Elizabeth Clark
daughter of John Clark of Castletown webstr. a linen web
of twenty one yards or thereabout & of 3 yards out of the pound
now in the hands of her Father aweaving. Lastly I or-
dain & constitute my kinsmen John Quirk sen. of Croggah and
John Moor of BallaHow,both of Santan Parish, joint exectrs of this
my last Will, willing, requiring & obliging my sd exers hereby
to redeem & pay off whever Mortgage is upon the Dwelling
house of my Nephew Thomas Waterson of Castletown at the
time of my Decease & leave it for my Nephew whout any
Incumbrance. And to hereby revoke & disannul all former Wills
Legacies & Bequests heretofore by me made or declared, ….
& confirming this my last Will& Testament as Witnesseth my Name
& manual sign the day & year above written.

At a Court of Correction in Balla Salla
Feb: 26 1742

The Revd John Quayle one of the witnesses to this will
has made oath to the truth of the Contents and that the same
was written by him by direction of the Testatrix, and read
unto her several times by him. She declaring it to be her
last Will - And that she put her mark thereto in his presence.
She being then of sound mind and memory.
Said Mr Quayle has also made Oath to ye Codicils annexed.

Samuel Moore the other subscribing witness desposes that the –
Testatrix being of sound mind & memory put her mark to the within
Deed in his presence and declared the same to be her last will and
that he then subscribed his name as within written.

John Quirk sen one of the Execrs having died before the probatim est
John Moore the other Execr is sworn to bring a Perfect Inventory
to the Registry – As also for the payments of Debts & Legacys accord
ing to Law – Pledges are the Revnd Paul Crebbin & Capt John
Clucas.

Quirk by brief of this Will do allow her brother John Quirk
the sum of five pounds for his trouble in Collecting aforesd sums

Whereof I aforesd Margt Quirk (one to) …. of discretion do
Consent to give him my sd brother four pounds to be paid out
of ye Inventory , and my mother widow Quirk the twenty shillings
of her own Effects to be paid him anytime. Also do Acknow
ledge to have received the cloath valued at 12s aforesd thus it is sett
down in ye Inventory this 18th March 1745

JANUARY THE 30TH 1743/4: RECEIVED from Mr. JOHN MOORE a guinea in full of all Accounts for the legacy left by Mrs. QUALTROUGH, by me JOHN COSTAIN.
5TH JANUARY 1743/4: THEN RECEIVED BY ME JAMES TEAR HUSBAND TO ELLINOR TEARE ALS TAYLOR of KK Andreas the sum of one pound ten shillings being the legacy bequeathed to my WIFE by Mrs. KATH. QUALTROUGH deceased of C'town from the hands of JOHN MOORE one of the Executors. I say received by me for xxxxx JAMES TEAR his mark X. Witnesses present: Margret Tear her mark X, Elenr Kissage her mark X.
26TH JANUARY 1743/4: RECEIVED the contents of the within Claim from the executors of Mrs. Qualtrough the date written, [signed] ALICE LEDWICK.
CASTLETOWN, FEB 25TH 1743/4: ALICE LEDWICK enters claim against the executors of Mrs. Cath: Qualtrough for the sum of xxxxx shillings and craves the Law. Exam per Robt Radcliffe, Archd Regtrar.
I MARGERY GAWN ALS QUALTROUGH of KK Christ Ryshen have received the big pot legacy bequeathed to me by Mrs. QUALTROUGH Will provided I quit claim and discharge any right title that I shall or will have to the aforesaid Mrs. QUALTROUGH'S effects that if any person or persons claim any right to the pot by Law that she is to restore it home as witness my mark this 3rd March 1742/3, MARGERY GAWN ALS QUALTROUGH her mark X. Witness present: Harry Qualtrough his mark, Thomas Moore.
22ND JUNE 1743: RECEIVED from Mr. JOHN MOORE Ballahow one of the executors of WIDOW QUALTROUGH of KK Christ Rushen the full and just sum of eight pounds seventeen shillings and four pence being on the account of a mortgage I had on the House of THOMAS WATERSON of Castletown which said sum was ordered to be paid by the said John Moore as may more fully appear by the last will of the said widow Qualtrough, I say received by me the day and year above, JOHN TAUBMAN.
KK MICHAEL, JULY 14, 1743: JOHN MOORE one of the Exeuctors of CATH: QUALTROUGH is hereby ordered to pay a legacy of three pounds to JANE THE ELDEST DAUGHTER OF JOHN COTTIMAN otherwise to be committed till he submits and pays all fees. John Cosnahan, Edw:Moore. To the Sumner of Santan who if disobeyed is to desire a soldier.
RECEIVED JULY 16TH 1743: the within three pounds in full from John Moore, per JANE COTTIMAN.
JULY 19TH 1743: THEN RECEIVED from Mr. JOHN MOORE one of the Executors of Mrs. KATHARINE QUALTROUGH late of Renwollen deceased, the sum of twenty shillings Manks value being a legacy bequeathed by the aforesaid decedent unto her near KINSMAN WILLIAM WATERSON SENIOR of BallaHayne in the Parish of Ryshen for which bequest I oblige myself hereby to procure and deliver unto the said Mr. Moore a receipt xxx discharge the said WILLIAM WATERSON SENIOR as witnesseth my subscription the day and year above written, J. QUAYLE.
AUGT 2, 1743: THEN RECEIVED from Mr. John Moore of Ballahow in Kirk Santan the sum of three pound Manks currency in full of legacy left me per Mrs. CATHERINE QUALTROUGH late deceased of Castletown. I say received per me, MARGERY CALLOW my mark.
AUGUST 4TH 1743: Then received from the hands of John Quirk executor the sum of five pounds Manks in the full legacy left me by Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased of Castletown, I say received per me MARGRETT WATERSON her mark X.
4TH AUGUST 1743: THEN received from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of the shillings Manks in full of Legacy left me per Mrs. Qualtrough late deceased of Castletown, I say received per me, ALICE CLARK of near the big Miln, her mark X.
10TH OF AUGUST 1743: THEN received from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of three pounds Manks in full of a legacy left me Mrs. Qualtrough late deceased of Castletown, I say received per me, JOHN BRIDSON.
13TH AUGUST 1743: THEN RECEIVED by me from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of five pounds Manks in full legacy left me by Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased of Castletown, I say received per me, HENRY QUALTROUGH his mark X.
I ANN CORRIN of Port Erin do hereby acknowledge to have received the sum of twenty shillings from the hands of John Quirk of Crogga, being the legacy left to me in the will of Mrs. Katharin Qualtrough deceased. I say received by me, ANN CORRIN her mark X. Witness present: Paul Crebbin. OCTR 14TH 1743: THEN RECEIVED from Mr. John Moore of Ballahow KK Santan twenty shillings being a legacy bequeathed by Mrs. CATHERINE QUALTROUGH unto her GODDAUGHTER CATHERINE GAWN KK Rushen, [signed] HENRY GAWNE.
I DO ACKNOWLEDGE to have received from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of one pound Manks value being in full payment of a legacy left to me by Mrs. CATRIN QUALTROUGH as witness my name to my mark this 17th October 1743, THOMAS WATTERSON his mark X.
I DO ACKNOWLEDGE to have received from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of one pound ten shillings being in full payment of a legacy to me and CATRIN MY WIFE by Mrs. CATRIN QUALTROUGH as witness my name to my mark, this 17th Octbr 1743, JOHN WATTERSON his mark X. Witnesses present: Thomas Watterson my mark X, Ellinor Kissack my mark X.
21ST OCTOBER 1743: THEN RECEIVED by me from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of 1 pound 10 shillings 0 pence Manks in full legacy left me by Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased of Castletown, I say received per me, ELENOR CHARIN ALS QUALTROUGH, her mark X.

Douglas on ye 1st November next but as I am just
Now going of the Island bound for Scotland has
Ordered my son in Law Ewan Christian & my
Daughtr Ann Kneen als Corlett to come there where
I hope and do Desire yt ye pay the Leggassey bequeathed
to my three Daughtrs by Mrs Catherine Qualtorough
Deceased. & their Receipt shall be your safe Dis
charge for the same. I beg that ye will discharge us
this time without further trouble, & in so doing
ye will very much oblige your affectionate friends.&

Witnesses present, Richard Curghey his mark X, Thomas Moore.
RECEIVED FROM JOHN MOORE & JOHN QUIRK being executore of QUALTROUGH of Ringwilling the sum of three pounds xxx as a legacy by our said COUSIN QUALTROUGH in full by xxxx our hands and marks to our names this 3rd November 1743, CHRISTIAN CUBBON my mark, MARGRET CUBBON my mark.
14TH NOVEMBER 1743:: THEN RECEIVED by me from John Moore of KK Santan the sum of three pounds Manks in full legacy left me by Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased of Castletown, I say received by me, ISABEL NELSON ALS CALLISTER my mark X.
THEN RECEIVED BY ME JAMES BREW of KK Lonan the legacy bequeathed to my WIFE ISABEL BREW ALS KISSAGE the sum of one pound Manks value from the hands of John Moore one of the executors of Mrs. Qualtrough deceased of Castletown, I say received by JAMES BREW his mark X.
5TH DECR 1743: THEN RECEIVED from John Moore Balnyhow KK Santan the sum one pound Manks in the full of the legacy left me per Mrs. KATHRINE QUALTROUGH late deceased of Castletown, I say received per me KATHRINE CALLOW her mark, WILLIAM CALLOW.
RECEIVED FROM JOHN MOORE of Ballahow in the parish of KK Santan the sum of twenty shillings Manks being a legacy left me by CATHERINE QUALTROUGH widow of Castletown deceased this 16th of December 1743, MARGRET CALLISTER my mark.
DECEMBER THE 27, 1743: I EWAN MARTIN of Ramsey been[?] sworn guardian along with WM MARTIN BROTHER TO WM MARTIN & CHILDREN and as he is sworn guardian to his SISTERs I desire you xx pay him the legacy left to him and his sisters by the Will of their COUSIN QUALTROUGH I am of opinion his receipt is sufficient without this if you insist on mine; after paying him the same his receipt on the back of this shall discharge you from any further demand by your humble servant EWAN MARTIN.
To the Executors of Qualtrough of Castletown. 28TH DECEMBER 1743: THIS DAY received by me WM MARTIN guardian xx the xxxx of EVAN MARTIN the other guardian of WM MARTIN SENIOR & WIFE CHILDREN of Ramsey deceased the legacy bequeathed to the said WM MARTIN'S TWO DAUGHTERS the sum of five pounds left to us by Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased of Castletown as specified in her Will, I say received by me WILLIAM MARTIN from the hands of JOHN MOORE executor.
RECEIVED FROM JOHN MOORE of Ballahow in the parish of KK Santan PETER WATERSON & JOHN WATERSON SON OF THOMAS WATERSON of Castletown received the sum of 2 pounds apiece Manks being legacy left by CATHRINE QUALTROUGH WIDOW of Castletown deceased this 27th of December 1742. [signed] PETER WATERSON, JOHN WATERSON. Witnesses present: Robert Crow my mark X, Peter Moore my mark X.
SIR, THE BEARER is desirous that I should satisfy you that he had a legacy left him of twenty shillings per Mrs. QUALTROUGH of Renwillen heir[?] JOHN WATERSON SON OF WM WATERSON of Ballahowe lately come from Ireland. I Sir xxxx humble Servant, THOMAS GAWNE. Ballagawn, April 4th 1744.
THEN THIS DAY RECEIVED by me the foresaid JOHN WATERSON one pound Manks being the legacy bequeathed to me by Mrs. KATHRINE QUALTROUGH deceased of Castletown from the hands of JOHN MOORE executor, I say received per me JOHN WATERSON his mark X. Witness present Thomas Waters his X, and does satisfy xxx above.
RECEIVED FROM the hands of JOHN MOORE and JOHN QUIRK executors to Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased the sum of two pounds ten shillings being a legacy that was left unto me by the said Mrs. QUALTROUGH, I say received by me for the use of HENRY WATERSON of the City of Dublin by virtue of a power in me vested this 11th June 1744.

RECEIVED FROM the hands of JOHN MOORE AND JOHN QUIRK Executors to Mrs. QUALTROUGH deceased the sum of two pound ten shillings being in Legacy that was left unto me by the said Mrs. QUALTROUGH, I say received by me for the use of THOMAS CLUCAS by virtue of the power in me vested this 11th June 1744.
