Archdeacon Wills 1729 #15, Santan, Deed of Gift (made November 1727) & Will of Isabel Quay als Moore widow of Meary Voar, Santan, died 1 March 1728/9:

"I Isable Quay widow of Mary Voar of the parish of KK St Ann, being now old and feeble and not of ability to manage my affairs, but entirely beholding and relying on my son in law Silvester Ratcliff & daughter Cathrine for several years now past, and especially by reason that they do hereby oblige themselves to live, and take care of me during my7 natural life, I have thought xxx to settle and dispose of my goods and chattels in manner and form following. Therefore, shew all men by these presents that I Isable Quay above said for the love, good will and affection which I have and bear towards my son & daughter Silvester Ratcliff & Cathrine aforesaid, settle, given & granted, and by those presents do xxx & clearly & absolutely give and grant unto Silvester Ratcliff & Cathrine his wife heirs, executors administrators and assigns the one half of all my goods and chattels, moveable and immoveable or of what kind or nature soever and in present possession together with my right or quarter of corn of Meary and the other half of my goods and effects after my death xxx reserving to myself the one half of my cash , the dunn mare & her colt to dispose of at and xxx xxx as I shall think proper together with a bowle of barley and three bowles of oats. In witness whereof I do xxx set my hand xx this 3rd November 1727. Note before the signing hereof that (in present possession) was within lined, and a bowl of barley and three bowls of oats. [signed her mark] Isable Quay. Witnesses: Hugh Killey, Charles Moore junior. Now that if in case my daughter Cathrine dies before xxx then that I be void of care or assistance[?] contrary to the intent and meaning of this deed, then and in that case the one half of what I have given in present possession to be forthwith restored to xxx. And to the performance of which we do bind each and every of us in the penalty of xxx pounds to levy according to Law. In xxx whereof they have hereunto set their hands and marks this 2nd November 1727. [signed their marks] Isabel Quay, Silvester Radcliffe, Cath Ratcliff als Quay. Witnesses: Thomas[?] Moore, xxx Kelley, xxx, Charles Moore. 6th December 1727, Isable Quay came and hath acknowledged the within deed of settlement as her free and voluntary act and deed, and further more the said Isable Quay and Sill: Rattcliff hath likewise acknowledged the above reservation[?] to be their mutual agreement, and this before me [signed] Charles Moore.

Will of Isabel Quay als Moore of Meary Voar, Santan, died about 1 March 1728/9:

"The Last will and testament of Isabel Quay (als Moor) of Meary Voar of KK Santan who departed this life about the first day of March 1728[1728/9]. First, she commended her soul to God and her body to Christian burial. Item, she left to her grandson John Quay of KK Lonan 20 shillings. Item, to her granddaughter Isabel Quay of Ball-ne-cregga a crown. To her granddaughter Katharine Clucas of Meary 3 shillings. To the daughter of the said Kath Clucas 3 shillings. To all her grandchildren of Ball-ne-cregga 3 shillings each. To her granddaugher Ann Clucas of Corvalley an heifer with an apron and xxx xxx xxx. To Sil: Radcliffe 11 shillings 4 pence for his part of the said heifer. To her grandson Tho: Clucas of Corvalley a mare. To her grandson John Kinnish of Rogane beg a colt. To William Christian’s wife a rug, a mant & a petticoat. To William Christian’s daughter an yearling if there xxx. To Christian Kermoad a blanket and petticoat. To John Gell a blanket. To Philip Gell 2 shillings and 4 pence. To her brother John Moor 3 shillings. To Alice Bridson a petticoat. To her daughter Isabel Quay and her grandchild of Corvalley all her part of her money equally betwixt them. To the minister a sheep and lamb. To the poor of the Parish a firlett of meal. She forgave John Quay the money he owed her. She left the corn excepted in Sill: Radcliffe deed of gift to sow the land with. To John Martin 5 shillings that he owed her. Christian Kermoad one of the witnesses declares she left her daughter Isabel a red petticoat. Lastly, she left her son in law Silvester Radcliffe Executor of all the rest of her goods moveable and immoveable whatsoever. Witnesses: Philip Gell, Christian Kermod.

The inventory at next court at Castletown. Pledges are Captn John Clucas & John Quay.

14th of April 1729, the witnesses further declare that the xxx Testatrix ordered that goods of hers she had given with her own hands to Corvalley should be their own. Item, she left a firlet of malt, of the malt she had in Meary, to her son in law of Corvalley in consideration of the trouble she had put on that family.

A true and perfect account of all the money that Isable Quay of Meary in KK Santan was possessed of at the hour of her death: Her part of the cash in her house: 6 pounds 3 shillings 11 1/2 pence; her part of the gold 3 pounds 1 shilling 3 pence; her part of Charles Cosnahan’s debt 1 pound 10 shillings; John McCrea debt to her 8 shillings; John Moor 2 shillings 6 pence; Robt Stephen 9 shillings; Eliz Radcliffe 2 shillings; John Quay 10 shillings; Christopher Cowill 5 shillings; John Martin 6 shillings 6 pence; John Stole 2 shillings 6 pence; Isable Kinnish 5 shillings 6 pence; Hugh Killey 7 shillings; Total 13 pounds 13 shillings 2 1/2 pence. Debt deducted 11 pounds 18 shillings 10 pence. Remainder 1 pound 14 shillings 4 1/2 pence.

Her funeral charges: ale, brandy, tobacco & pipes 1 pound 9 shillings 10 pence; a mutton and her coffin 11 shillings 6 pence; the clerk’s fees and burying money 2 shillings 5 pence; her funeral sermon 5 shillings 10 pence; the wardens for breaking ground 1 shilling; proving the will 1 shilling; Total 2 pounds 11 shillings 7 pence.

Other debts: Wm Kneal of KK Lonan 2 shillings; the goods of Thomas Quay’s children as prized in the books 1 pound 17 shillings; Thomas Moor for a cow 1 pound; Kneal the Cooper 6 pence; Fargher 2 pence; Sill: Kneal 3 pence; Wm Christian’s shoes 1 shilling 8 pence; xxx for work 9 pence; Lord’s rent 4 shillings; tythe 1 shilling; servant’s wages 7 shillings; xx Peter Corlet 3 shillings; xx Henry Moor xx pence; wards the Bridge xx pence; total 5 pounds 17 shillings 9 pence.

The legacies in her will: her grandson John Quay 1 pound; Isable Quay of the Rock 5 shillings 10 pence; Kath Clucas 3 shillings; her grandchildren of the Rock, 3 shilling each for 9 shillings; Sill: Radcliffe for his part of an heifer 11 shillings 4 pence; Philip Gell 2 shillings 8 pence; John Moor 3 shillings 9 pence; John Martin 15 shillings; John Quay 10 shillings; Total 3 pounds 9 shillings xx pence."
