Archdeacon Will 1705 #2, Douglas, Braddan, of Michael Oates

, made 30 Oct 1704: "This thirtieth of October 1704: In the name of God, amen. I Michell Oates of the town of Douglas, being sick and weak in body but in perfect mind and memory blessed be God for the same, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth. First, I bequeath my soul to God Almighty; and my body to Christian burial. Item, I leave to the poor of the town five shillings. Item, I leave to my son William Oates my part of my dwelling house chamber, brew house, backsides and garden adjoining to thereof three shillings rent to the Lord per year with that garden bexxx John Keys doobi[?] on the sand side of two pence yearly rent. Likewise I leave to my said son William the half of my xxx of that field and meadow in KK Braddan that I formerly bought from John Cowley of KnockBule, it being a parcel of the tenement of BallaKnock and of three shillings yearly rent to the Lord. Item, I leave to my daughter Margrett Oates my half of that mxxxx which I mortgaged from Christopher Stole of KK Braddan she paying her proportion of the rent thereof as is thereon mentioned in the bill of mortgage. Likewise I leave to my said daughter Margrett my half of the young mare that is on the northside with half my fishing boat and nets and half of all necessaries belonging to the boat and nets. Also I leave to my said daughter Margrett the other half of my part of the field and meadow above mentioned to be equally concerned therein with her said brother William in rent profits. Likewise my loving wife hath so far consented to my testament that she makes over her half of the house backside and gardens with the field and meadow as they are above left and settled in this my will, to her said son and daughter viz,, William Oates and Margrett Oates after her decease and only to have the full benefit of her half of them during her life. And after her death as above left without the encumbrance to be by her laid on them in her lifetime. Item, I leave to my daughter Catherin Oates my half of the said xxx and garden belonging to the said house and four pence yearly rent. Item, I leave to my above said son William Oates the third part of my half of what pewter, brass, woolen and linen with the like proportion of all other household goods, and one dozen of the yearly sheep. And I leave the tuition of him and goods to my above daughter Margrett Oates. And that my daughters Margrett and Catherin shall bind him to a trade in the Isle. And that they to pay for instructing him in the said trade not out of his own xxx but out of the Executorship if it amounts to three pounds. Otherwise as xxx as the can and the remainder xxxx. Item, I leave to my loving wife the half of either the black or pockled xxx which of them she pleases to take for a legacy. Item, I leave to my godson Michell Smith one she yearling sheep. Item, I leave one she yearling sheep to Elisabeth Flexney. Item, I leave and bequeath all the rest of my goods moveable and unmoveable and of what kind or nature soever jointly between my two daughters vizt., Margrett Oates and Catherin Oates whom I nominate and appoint to be my lawful Executors of this my last will and testament. I Alse Oates alias Wilson wife to the within Testator do her stand to and allow of what is within mentioned of me in that will touching the settlement of the house backside and garden to my son William Oates and likewise of the field and meadow to my said son and daughter Margrett Oates after my decease to be for the future xxxallowable by me as witness my hand the day and year first within mentioned.
