Archdeaconal Will 1685/6 #5 Braddan of Deemster Thomas Fletcher, made 30 December 1684:

"In ye name of God Amen. The thirtieth day of December of ye year of our lord God 1684[?] and in ye thirtieth year of ye reign of our most gratious sovereign Lord Charles ye Second of England and King, I Tho: Fletcher being sicke in body but of sound and perfect memory thankes be to ye almighty God for ye same and calling to mine ye uncertain state of this transitory life, and yt all flesh must yeald unto death, when it shall please God to call and being desirous to settle things in order doe make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, invoking and absolutely un-willing by these presents all and everie testament and testaments will or wills heretofor by me made and declared either by word or writing and this is to be taken only for my last will and testament and none other. And first beinge truly sorrie and penitent from ye bottom of my heart for all my sins past, humbly desiring of God forgiveness for ye same, I give and commit my soul unto almighty God my Creator (in whom through ye obedience and merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer in ye application of his Righteousness by ye holy ghost my Sanctifier and Comforter I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and to have full remission of all my sins, and yt my soule with my body at ye general day of Resurection shall rise again with joy and possess and inherit ye Kingdom of heaven prepared for his elect servants[?]), ;and my body to ye earth from whence it came, to be buried in such desent and Christian manner as to my executors hereafter named shall be thought meet and convenient, and now for ye settling my temporal estate, and such goods chattels and debts, as it hath pleased God far above my des--t to bestow upon me, I doe order give and bequeathe and dispose ye same in manner and form following (that is to say) first I will[?] yt all those debts, if any there be, and duties as I owe in right or conscience to any manner of person or persons whatsoever, shall be well and truly paid and contented or ordained to be paid, within convenient time after my decease, by my executors after named.
Item, I leave to my first wive’s children, yt is to say, Easter Fletcher and Jane and Ann her sisters six pence apiece legacies.
Item, I leave to my dear wife five pound legasie.
Item, I do ordain nominate and appoint my last wive’s children yt is to say Thomas Fletcher, and Jo:, Christian and Margret Fletcher my lawful executors of all my goods movable and unmovable of what kind or nature soever they be of, provided always, I leave ye sd children’s tuition to my dear wife,and in case they will not be said nor lead by her yt then I do cut my sd children off with twenty shillings apiece legasye and ye goods to herself to dispose of to those it will be best unto her and will take her counsel and this I will have to stand for my last will and testament, and whereas my son Ro: Fletcher and his brother Richd: Fletcher are provided for before hand, I doe leave them both five shillings apiece legasie. The Administration of ye within will is granted to the wife Mrs[?] Fletcher xxxx presence[?] xxxxxx who is sworn to discharge & performe the same according to the trust reposed in her by ye will. Pledges according to Law James Moore and Willm Kelley.

Novr 4th 1686: Tho: Brew enters his claime against ye Executor of Mr. Deemster Fletcher for 20s due debt as will be made to appeare & craveth ye Law.

Novr 4th 1686: Tho: Woods of Knocksharrey junr enters his claime against ye Execr of Mr Deemster Fletcher for ye sum of 6 pounds with ye use thereof for four yeares past due debt as he will make to appear & craveth ye Law. The debt is acknowledged by ye Executor and her son Mr. Robt Fletcher is become bondsman to see ye same justly paid at Michaelmas next in double ye value. Jane Fletcher, Robt. Fletcher.

Novr 4th 1686: Thomas Crellin in behalf of Mrs Ellin ----ite & Mary Parre enters his claime against ye Executors of Deemster Thomas Fletcher for ye sum of 12d for a horse due debt as will be made to appear & craveth ye Law.

Novr 5th 1686: Alice Moore als Watleworth enters her claime against ye Executors of Mr Deemster Fletcher for 6 pounds & ye use thereof as appears by specialtie & craveth ye Law.

Die et anno predicto: Mr. David Murrey enters &c for 9 pounds due by specialtie & booke of account & craveth ye Law.

Novr 8th 1686: Mrs Ann Curghey als Christian in behalf of her self & her children enters her claime against ye Executors of Mr. Deemster Fletcher for ye sum of 20 pounds due debt and craveth ye Law.

March ye 10th 1686/7: Capt Patr. Xtian enters his claime against ye Execr of Mr Deemster Fletcher for 2 pounds 5 shillings 4 pence due debt as will be made to appear by a bill of particular, all which was expended in ye funeral charges of his Mother in law Xtian Quaile als Kissag, to whom Mr. Fletcher xxxx admistr[?] xxxxx xx b------ of xxxx & other provisions & for 40s more lent to him ye sd Deemster Fletcher which he received from Robt Carrett shoemaker & craveth ye Law.

March ye 17th 1686/7: Mr. Jo: Quaile of Ramsey in behalf of himself and his wife Esther & her children by her former husband Adam Murrey late of Duglasse enters his claime against ye Execr of Mr Deemster Fletcher for ye just sum of nine pounds due unto her ye said Esther by ye death of her mother & promised to be paid by ye sd Mr. Fletcher in ye memo[?] extract given & made over[?] to ye said Adam & Esther as more at large appears, & craveth ye Law.

Anno et die predicto: Mr. Quaile aforesd enters his claime against ye foresaid Execr of Mr Deemster Fletcher for ye just summe of six pounds due debt as appears by specialtie & craveth ye Law. The foresaid Mr. Jo: Quaile enters his claime against ye execr of ye foresaid Mr Deemster Fletcher for ye summe of four pounds tenne shillings, being due debt for ye benefit of four all daymothes of hay for ye space of three yeares as appears by agreement under ye hand of ye sd Deemster Fletcher, & craveth ye Law.

Anno et die predicto: Mr. Jo: Quaile enters his claime against ye Execr of Richd Cowle for ye summe of twelve shillings six pence due debt as will be made to appeare & craveth ye Law. Anno et die predicto: Mr. Jo:Quaile enters his claime against ye Execr of Jane Curlett late wife to & Execr to Tho: Calister for ye summe of six shillings, due debt as will be made to appeare & craveth ye Law. Reverend Sr: All due respecte remembered unto you, food Sir I desire you to do me xxxxx as to enter my claime against the executors and administrators of dim---- for ye just sum of 42s as will be made to appear by specialties and xxxxxx forget it not, as sone as you get home, put it upon record for I feare ye xxxxx is neare had expired since the probacions of the will and I shall xxxxx made to appeare against the next Chapter and whatsoever ys your due xxxxx ----poid by god as sestaned I hope will not faile me in this kindness and xxxx to remaine, Your true friend & servant to Command, Jon.
