KK Maughold 1677 In the Name of God Amen. I Grace Crooke als Quaile of the Town of Ramsey in the Isle of Man, Sicke in Body but whole in minde, and of sound and perfect memory (I thank my god) maketh this my last Will and Testament as followeth ; ffirst I bequeath my soule unto Allmightie God my blessed Lord and Saviour, through whose death and passion I stedfastly believe yt full pardon and remission of all my Sins, and my body Unto Christian Buriall, to bee laide neere the side of the Grave of my former husband John Black late of Ramsey marchnt Item I bequeath Unto my my Brothers Son James Crooke (my geese... five pounds. Item I bequeath unto my daughter Radclife the best of the three firm feather - Bedds, a boulster, a cupple of pillows a cupple of New blancketts which are unsewne, ffour paire of sheets a cupple of lardgr pewter dishes, with foure other pewter dishes that is to say two deeper dishes, and two ^ lardge ^ flatt ones, a dozen of napkins a Table Cloath a cupple of pillows [beart] cases, also a feather Bedd Ticke alredy made, but unfilled, two of my best gownes a gowne of manxe sardge with a petticote of olive culler to make for that gowne, also a nother stuffe gowne (with a petticote to each) wch gowne came out of England, and all furniture for it tyde together These things to bee given her by my husbande (from tyme to [tyme] as shee shall have Occation to weare them ; Item I bequeath unto the Neediest sorte of poore people Thirtie shillings in moneys to be distributed as Mr. Thomas Allen, and my husband shall think fittinge, Item I bequeath to James Christian att Lough Mallow Twenty shillinges in moneys ; Item I bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Blacke, for her portion the full sume of Eighteene and Ten poundes sterling, to bee paid her (all) in reddy monyes by my hus- bande Mr. John Quaile, his Executor and assignes, as also a younge ^ oxe ^ . ^ younge Cow ^ .. ^ 2 ^ Calfes includeinge herein, her Childes parte of goodes due unto her, by her father Blacke, and with all to bee acquitted, of all my right of landes, houses, and goodes whatsoever, not herein given her And I do hereby intreat my said husband (as hee shall answer before Allmightie ^ god ^ and more att the Dreadfull day of Judgement that hee have a spetiall Care and regarde for the Education of said Childe, and to have the use of her portion, ffor her [care] and maintenance, untill shee shall marry, or abt lawfull age and demande the same ; and if in the meane tyme my sd. da...(edge in binding) Ann, dislike her usage and livinge with her father Quaile bee minded to Dwell in England with my Brother Richard then it shall not remain in the power of my husbande time to hinder her, and there uppon, hee is to allow her yearly pounds, as use (and noe more) out of her said portion to man and keepe her to learninge then and if in case my said Daug shall liveath with her ^ father ^ .. Quaile, that then my husba send to England for a wooman of skille and knowledge to keep his house to teach my said daughter her booke and needle learn the virginalls (which virginalls are now in my house I bequeath it unto her, with halfe a dozen paire of sheets = Bedd with all furniture belongeing to the same a Trunck halfe a dozen pewter dishes, that is to say, two deepe ones lardge ones and two flatte ones ; And I doe hereby require my said daughter Ann, on my last blessings, that she use [no] Company, neither bee swayed or carried by any idle fancie herselfe in marriage, without the Consent and Knowledge of her Quaile, and her overseers ; And if in case my said daughter doe dye, and departe this life, before shee is the full age of ffour yeares, that then and in that case, I doe hereby bequeath her portion (excepting what is due to her by her father Black followeth, vizt. a hundred poundes thereof to my daughter Marg & her issue, and the remainder, to my husband Quaile, But if in case my daughter Margrett should, or doe dye without issue of lawfu yeares, that then the sd. hundred poundes to descend payable my next relations in England, and the other parte of ye portion to my husband Quaile ; excludinge my former hus Children (by his first wife) from any benefitt thereof by Legacie to every of them, wch hereby, and to that effect I bequea them ; Item I further bequeath to my daughter Margrett pounds in money, to bee paid her by my husband as shall require ye same, and only to herselfe and issue it is to be g Item I bequeath to my Brother Richard Crooke a Jacobin of gold. Item I bequeath for a legacie to my husband Quaile of peice of Item I further bequeath to my ^ daughter ^ Ann, a diber Tablecloath, an dozen of diber napkins, with the leaveinges of all the sardge I have in the house, saveinge thereout, a gowne and a petticote for my Dau hter Margrett ; All the rest of my goodes, moveable and unmoveable whatsoever, I doe hereby bequeath to my husband Mr. John Quaile whom I doe hereby, nominate, and Constitute my lawfull Executor of this my Last Will and Testament ; Revokeinge & Nullifyeinge any former will or Testament made by mee ; And finally I doe Hereby and nominate and Authorize for Overseers of my said Childe Ann Blacke, and of this my Will; Edward Christian of Milnetown Esqr. ^ in and ^ Mr. Thomas Allen, Mr. Silvester Radcliffe, and my husband Mr. John Quaile, whom I erneastly beseech in Christian affection, att all times to regarde, and see duely performed, the trust and Confidence I doe hereby repose in them, to which Gentlemen I bequeath these Legacies, towitte a ten shillinge peice of gold, and to Mr. Allen and my son in law, five shillinges, each of them, And this my Last Will and Testament beinge in Every particular fairely Considered off, and Composed with Cordiall love betwixt my husband and myselfe, wee have accorddingly subscribed and signed the same, with our Names and Seales, this twenty forth day of May, in Anno Domini 1677 Grace Quaile als Crooke Signed and sealed before us, my mark The Wittnesses hereof x James: Christian _________ I doe hereby give my John Wattleworth my mark x} jurat consent to this my wifes Last will ^ and ^ Testamente as wittnes my hand John Quaile x k mallew debts due to ye deceadt.
