The Hinleys or Hingleys would appear to be originally associated with Castle Rushen Garrison - a John Hinley noted as a soldier, paid 25s, in 1700 though the name Hinglay is found in Arbory from the 1660's
Richard Hinley would appear to be son of Edward Hinley and Ellinor Thompson m Rushen 17141202 with only child Richard baptised
Rushen 17151211 ; he married
(1) Elizabeth Maddrell Santan 17370214 - the baptism of dau Frances has not been found (possibly
c 1738 in Arbory as register is deficient); a dau Elinor is baptised Rushen 17400111 but mother Elizabeth is noted as buried
at Arbory 25 Jan 1740/1(also noted in Rushen burial register as transferred to Arbory) followed by a burial of an unnamed
daughter of Richard & Eliz Maddrell his wife on 1 Feb 1740/1. Elizabeth's decree is in Rushen and explains the reason
for this contract - died 25 Jan 1740/1;husband Richd, only child Frances (under age) ;aunt Mrs Margt Killy als Maddrell
appointed guardian by court ;inv £95 11 9d. Then follows a petition dated 1749 by Robt Maddrell (brother of Elizabeth)
which states Elizth died when he + next relations were off island, on return found Frances not cared for as she ought and
took her home to her maternal grandmother where she has been been 3 years during which father Richard has not given more
than 3s towards maintenance;
(2)Ann Bridson, eldest daughter and heiress of of Capt Wm Bridson of Oristal (marriage not found though there is a contract
Malew SSS May 1746 #78) - they went on to have 8 children in Rushen and later in Malew
- Richard died 7 Jan 1779 - will names children as Wm, John, Ann, Ellinor + Thomas - it
also mentions Ann + Eliz Radcliffe children of Fanny Radcliffe als Hingley.
Frances married Charles Radcliffe at Malew 17640814 - Charles noted as of Kirk German (one witness being a John Radcliffe) - she died 1777 - buried Kk German 3 Apr 1777 tho the decree is in Kk Michael - died 2 Apr 1777;alledged insolvent;husb Charles refused admin;ch under age ;Wm Quirk Lambfield Kk German h/o Ann Hinley sister of half blood appointed administrator;pledges Patk Lace snr Peel (husband Isable Lace als Radcliffe) + Wm Hingley Malew (presumeably her half brother). This insolvency probably arose from an action in chancery by John Taubman against Charles Radcliffe dated 24 Aug 1767 for £42 13s 6d - Charles effects were appraised at £38 though in auction 19 Nov 1768 john christian bid £42 british for yard and concerns known as John Radcliffe's houses and yard
