Though the Isle of Man is now famous for the Motorcycle T.T. races, these races originated in 1905 as a motor car event which continued until 1907 (in which year both car and motor-cycle races took place) - the Island, unlike the UK, could close public roads to allow the event to take place. There was an attempt to revive the motor car even in the early 1930s but the RAC refused to award it but there was a 1933 race around Douglas on closed roads which however proved to be a financial loss.
