Nigel - I agree - the link to the Christians is via a comment by Canon Quine that Gilchrist (?a forename indicating a christian at the time of the visit of the papal envoy sent to sort out non-standard family relationships) was a protogenitor of the Christian family who 3.5 centuries later occupied the same area (Balldroma in Maughold).
