Re: William Christian 1904
In Response To: Re: William Christian 1904 ()

Many of the board users are probably descendants of the various Christian families, for example I have
1. a legitimate descent from Lewaigue,
2. illegitimate from Milntown thru' Elinor illeg. dau of Deemster Ewan;
3. through Edmund of Douglas, early 17th c. a junior descent from a Bride family;
4. through the Corletts of Brough Jairg, another Bride descent, early 17th c.
5. Through the Crowes of Aust, Elizabeth Christian as mentioned on this board.

We would all benefit as would descendants abroad from a re-assessment of early documentation.

We need to track down what is authenticated, what was guesswork/invention/wishful thinking.

The early sources that I am aware of would be the Visitation pedigree in the College of Arms in London.
Mentions of individual Christians in the early rent rolls
Lists of Deemsters and members of the Keys
Lists of clergy

Earlier references in the Chronicles of Man or witnessing to Charters must be wishful thinking because of a lack of intervening documentation.
