I am interested in the occupation of 'Merchant' associated with the McHOOD surname.

On the death certificate of ancestor of mine, Edward McHOOD a Stone Mason, aged 63 years, dated October 15th 1856 at Maybole Ayrshire Scotland; it has his parents as:
Joseph McHOOD deceased a 'S...... Merchant'.

I had wondered, that as his son Edward was a Stone Mason if Joseph's occupation could have been related to that business. Happy to email the certificate to anyone who would like to try and read it.

Edward's daughter Mary McHood was born in Ireland and married David GEMMELL in Ireland, they had two daughters before coming to Maybole Ayrshire Scotland and having the rest of their eight children there.
