Hi Anne

Then this information has been added at a later date:
"I've found John Gelling in Liverpool boarding and working as a house carpenter in 1861.
After the death of eleanor John Gelling remarried Annie, (don't know where or when) they had 2 daughters who were born in America - Clara and Catherine (Katie) they had returned to Liverpool for the birth of another daughter Annie and the son who died young, Robert Craine Gelling.
In 1881 John is a carpenter employing 3 men and a boy.
I cannot find his widow and second family in the 1891 census at all - where are they?
By 1901 John's widow Annie Gelling has remarried to Edward Feeny. Clara and Catherine are living with them, but no mention of dau Annie (maybe she had died)
also living with them is Florrie Pooster a niece to Eddie and Teresa Scott a grand daughter
Clara died in 1905, and I can't find anything after that."

This MI is also given:
John Gelling inscrption
In loving memory of John Gelling of Liverpool, builder , eldest son of the late Robert Gelling of Douglas, harbour master, who departed this life at Liverpool on Wednesday 14th December 1881 aged 44 years; also of Robert Craine Gelling who died 31st October 1881 age 3 months.

The things which link this John Gelling to your Robert Gelling / Cath Craine family are the name of one of the witnesses at the 1868 marriage (Cath M Gelling), the occupation of joiner at his 1868 marriage, and the MI mentioning that the father was a harbour master.
