My Quirk connection is through the Corjeags. Ann Quirk (1769 - 1855) daughter of Richard Quirk and Margaret Cain of Raby Moar, Patrick, married William Corjeag of Ballonna, Kirk Michael. Raby Moar is still held by one of the Quirk family.
The date when surnames became settled in the IOM is of great interest - you seem to suggest that Quirk or MacQuirk is tremendously old, but see dialogue between Frances and self regarding Norman names which cannot be earlier than the Scottish suzerainty (1265 - 1333)
