Try plotting all the Quirks on the earliest rent rolls on the maps and you get an interesting picture which has endured to the present of upland holdings spread around the fringes of the hills.

It would seem a bit unlikely that this pattern would arise from the spread of a single family
line, but I am wondering if could be locative or occupational?
