McArd or McCard or similar is an Irish name - the Manx branches seem to descend either from a Charles McCard who married in Arbory (a parish in South of Island) in 1802 or a james who according to 1841 census was born Ireland - both McCards settled in Rushen the southernmost parish of the Ireland where there was a history of Irish marrying into the fishing families.
