There is a trap with this, Sylvia. Years ago I filled in one of the GRO forms with father's name etc., and the cert wasn't issued because the information didn't match. The refund was a fraction of what I had paid, and I had ended up with nothing. Several years and many trial certs later I found I had the correct entry the first time, but there was a minor spelling difference to the information I had supplied. Since then I have taken my chances and not asked them to check whether it is the correct one. However if the local ROs return the whole fee I guess you could keep trying, but they still might not supply the correct entry if your information differs slightly from what is written (e.g. a second forename).
