Thank you Nigel for posting this. But there's an entry on the Marown marriage list that's really thrown me for a loop. Down near the bottom on Dec 12 1798 James Skeroo Bachelor marries Mary Clague with witnesses Robert Quine and Patrick Clague. This James Skeroo is James Scarffe of Ballaskeroo (Lonan).
My problem is that James Scarffe married Catharine Kneal (d of William Kneal and Jane Gelling) on Feb 27 1797 in Lonan and they had many children, with all but the first having Catherine Kneal identified as the mother (the first, James 1798, simply said James Scarffe). My understanding is that this James (being the eldest son) was from Ballaskeroo. When his daughter Ann was buried age 14 in 1832 it said that she was "of Ballaskeroo". In 1841 James is at Ballabeg Lonan as an Ag Lab, and there are no Scarffes anymore at Ballaskeroo. He's of Ballaquine in 1851 and at his burial in Dec 1856.
If this Marown marriage entry was John Scarffe instead of James Scarffe, then I'd be much happier. There's a John Scarffe son of John Scarffe (of Ballaskeroo) and Margaret Killip baptized 1776, younger brother of James. Nothing more found on him, but I think he may be the father of George Scarffe of Liverpool born about 1804 and mentioned in his grandfather's 1809 will and his uncle William's 1811 will.
As far as I can determine, there should only be one James Scarff who would be marrying as a bachelor in 1798. So suddenly we have two, both of Ballaskiroo. Mystery.
