The Dhowin area is on Smeale Road leading NW out
of Andreas village. Now it is pronounced "Down" but
there are still elderly locals who say "Thown". Mc Cambridge
says in early times there was a family there named
Dowan which has since disappeared. In the mid 1800's
the area was known for weaving.
