In Response To: Re: Edward GELLING b abt 1801 ()

Hello Eric, You have certainly added to my knowledge of this family. I do apologize for not responding to this thread for some time, but another branch of my family has been demanding my attention. Willamena and Benjamin Burdon were married in Kirkburton Parish Church, Yorkshire, on 1 May 1848. I wonder why they werenÕt married in Douiglas, IOM, where WillamenaÕs father lived with his second wife. Did Willamena not get along with her? However, the family had an Aunt Margaret Russell I believe in Yorkshire that perhaps Willamena went to. Do you know who Aunt Margaret is? I suspect she lived in Yorkshire. I visited the church at one time -- found it by comparing it with an old photo that I had. Benajmin and Willemina probably emigrated in 1853. Their third child, Emma Lavina, was born in York (Toronto), Upper Canada 1 March 1855. They moved to Owen Sound, then a small town in Huron or Bruce county (Ripley?), then Lobo Township, then Adelaide Twp., then Bothwell and finally Euphemia Towsnip, Lambton County. I have a little information about Sarah Jane but not the other two sisters. She lived at Port St. Mary. I have a photo of Sarah Jane Gelling accompanied by a note from her daughter Mary Bridson. Sarah Jane married William Bridson on 19 May 1850. They had three daughters: Lucy, Sallie and Mary. I have Willamena Mary Jane (first chld) born 1850. I donÕt know who Thomas Edward is. Annie Marie was the second child, born 1853. My grandmother Margaret Evelyn was the 8th and last child. Jane CannelÕs father was Robert Cannell. I have not found any record of Jane CannellÕs burial. Where was she buried? A lot of my information is in hard copy only in a privately published booklet of my DadÕs entitled ÒBenjamin Lionel Burdon and Wilhelmina Margaret Gelling." If you are willing to give me your email address, I could perhaps scan the photo of Sarah Jane for you. Elaine
