Re: Edward GELLING b abt 1801
In Response To: Re: Edward GELLING b abt 1801 ()

Thank you for this, Sue. Yes, indeed Edward Frank Gelling is the one that went to Australia. His father was William Paul, and his father was Rev. Alexander Gelling (ca. 1786-1859). I suspect that another son of William Paul was Edward Gelling , the grocer on Duke St.(and my gg grandfather) whom I believe was born in Douglas in 1799 -- not 1801. The reason I suspect that this relationship exists is that the two families knew each other. Willliam PaulÕs grandson, Paul, used to visit Elizabeth Gelling (daughter of Edward Gelling and Mary Brown) and she would give him money before he went off to boarding school in England. This same Paul told me that his father Edward Frank, grandson of Rev. Alex. played with Tristram Gelling b.1880, son of Daniel Edward, son of Edward G. and Mary Brown. It appears that the two boys were born in the same year. If I can establish this connection, then I will know that I was related to Paul and Dan Gelling! So what I am hoping to find out is who the children of Rev. Aexander Gelling and his wife Ann were. IÕm just learning to find my way around the IOM Genealogical website and trying to learn the abbreviations; so pardon me if I ask questions that seem to be already answered. I got from J. Oats some time ago the information about Jane Cannell being the first wife of my gg grandfather Edward. Where are Brian LawsonÕs birth regts? I am really delighted to know that so many are researching the Gellings. Elaine
