In this 2006 message I wrote:
Thomas Kirmeen & Ellinor Stole married 3 May 1772.
Thomas KERMEEN 86 (Sumner) buried Apr 28 1835.
Thomas son of William Kermeen & Isabel bapt 6 Apr 1749.
William Kermeen & Isabel Callow married 5 Aug 1739.
This Kermeen family were landholders of the Corony, Maughold. Thomas was a younger son - his elder brother William inherited.
I now think that Thomas was the son of John Kermeen, not the son of his elder brother William. Since I wrote that message Donald Kirkham has transcribed William’s will (date of death was known from land records): www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/twill/1773_015.html in which there was no Thomas. Only three children were mentioned - the heir William, John, and Ann.
Both brothers married an Isabel Callow, and I have transcribed both wives’ wills:
www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/twill/1787_020.html
www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/twill/1792_034.html
The same three children were mentioned in the will of Isabel widow of William, with no Thomas.
Additionally the Maughold parish register has these two bapts too close together to be from the same family, and this is the only possible Ann baptism to have been the daur of William Kermeen & Isabel Callow (marr.1739 Maughold), so there must have been another couple with the same names:
Anne daur of William Kermeen & Isabel bapt Parish Church 5 Mar 1748/49
Thomas son of William Kermeen & Isabel bapt Parish Church 6 Apr 1749.
Thomas son of John Kermeen & Isabel bapt Maughold 7 Mar 1750/51 was almost certainly the Thomas who married Ellinor STOLE on 3 May 1772.
This is also the one given by Tom Kermen in his Kermeen files.
John Kermeen's will, mentioning Thomas amongst his 6 children, is here: www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/twill/1769_026.html
