I am too am researching the Bruce family , my wife's GGgrandmother was Ann Margaret Bruce , daughter of William Bruce and Elizabeth Kewley . my wife's grandfather and father were called Edward Bruce Clucas .
The Bruce's seemed to have arrived on the IOM around 1800 from Scotland , maybe after a small time in England . Frances already helped me out in establishing that they came from Alford , Aberdeenshire , Sco .
John Bruce b 1774 , married Margaret Wilson ,
William Bruce b 1776 married Margaret XXXX
their father named John - no mother on IGI .
Robert Bruce bXXXX does not seem to be a brother - maybe cousin - there are millions of Bruces in Scotland . Appears the children are :
John's :

1808 Ann (Malew) d 1824 (Andreas)

John may have remarried Mary XXX and had children :

1824 Sarah Davidson (Andreas)

xxxx Robert (Malew) m Ann Christian
Robert's child :
1813 John Robert (Malew) cant trace him .

Some may have gone back to England / Scotland William and Elizabeth Kewley were in Salford England on the night of the 1861 census , but were back in the IOM by the 1871 census .

There is no birth of Robert ( Who married Ann Christian ) on the IGI , but his will in 1899 shows William (b 1803) as his deceased brother and left his land ( After the death of his second wife ) to William's children . So it appears he had no children with Ann or Margaret Ann

With John Bruce's will dated 1838 , he leaves the property to Robert ( Manx law to the eldest son ) and other sons William and James , no daughters mentioned . Ann John had already died , but he must have disowned Margaret . As there is no record of Robert and William being born , they may have been born before the tribe arrived on the IOM . However William's son Robert is not on the IGI either .

Frances - re Andreas - E12 old yard - I cant work out which Margaret Bruce - wife of William died 1911 aged 91 is !!!

I would really like to clear up the early days of the Bruces on the IOM
