Maria was quite a popular name around that period - 40 (inc Mariannes) in 1835 + 1836 alone and those are the ones baptised in the established church - it was also a popular Roman Catholic name and if you can't find marriage + bapts on the Island it may well be worthwhile searching the catholic records.
