Is there a way to find names of Scottish men serving on the IOM between the 1851 & 1861 census?
An ancestor (George Matthewson) was buried by the Govt Chaplin in 1864 and I'd like to establish if this meant he was in the Army or prison! The 1861 Census shows him (transcribed as Matterson) as a Coachman & he married in 1859 and was shown as a Coachman then too. I cannot find him on the 1841 or 1851 Census & need to know the County he was born in to progress my Fam Tree. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank You.
