I have done an initial study of the Redfern family - http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/famhist/families/redfern.htm - though must admit I am confused in that there would appear to be two Redfern families on the Island c. 1800 - a long established Castletown branch (with some very interesting links into well known families) and another branch headed by Ross who appears on Island c. 1783 - both 'families' produced several Georges - both had connections with the butchering business as well as licenced premises - there was a strong Liverpool connection as well
