Re: Census or Birth Help?
In Response To: Re: Census or Birth Help? ()

Re James Burnett, B 1818 D 1885 Lighthouse Keeper in service 1841-1880 mainly in Scotland. Retired to the IOM residing at 4 Albert Street. Ramsey

One of his daughters Helen B1863 Cape Wrath D Sydney Australia 1935 is my Grandmother. My brother carries the Burnett name as a second forename. She(Helen) married William Cantwell about 1890 and lived in Liverpool having 3 sons William/James Burnett and Joseph the latter being my father. The 1881 IOM census seems to indicate that at 4 Albert Street were also his wife Catherine, a daughter Catherine E,Robert A.& Margaret E.
Our word of mouth family record indicates there was also a Daughter Bella, a son Jack(John?) and a son James (OR was it just one son John James?), all born in the travels around Scotland. From the thread it looks like James followed his fathers footsteps? Was Robert A (the Joiner on the census) the same Robert A Burnett later at the Swan Hotel Ramsey who died in 1925?
Helen Cantwell(Nee Burnett)came to be in Australia because James Burnett Cantwell emigrated there in 1928 and sent for his Mother who was then a widow to join him.
Finally does anyone know/understand the connection between the Burnett family at 2 Market Square and those at 4 Albert street in 1881 if there is any!
