Re: MONEAR FAMILY
In Response To: Re: MONEAR FAMILY ()

Jeanne, I am a relation of the William Monier (McNameer at baptism) who married Jane Quayle and emigrated to Peoria. The descendants of this family have done a great deal of work on their genealogy, much of which I have. The majority still live in Illinois, so it seems highly likely that your Illinois Moniers are related to them. Unfortunately we cannot go back beyond John McNameer (ca. 1768-1841), father of emigrant William. Are you in touch with this family in Illinois? If not, and you would like to be, please send me an e-mail and I will give you what contact(s) I have.

There was a William McNameer baptised at Andreas on 16th September 1806, son of William McNameer and Jane Killey. This is likely to be your ancestor. I know of no one else that comes close.

The nearest John McNameers to mine were baptised at Andreas on 14th September 1766 and 16th September 1770. The latter was the son of John McN and Margaret Radcliffe. John had a brother William, baptised at Andreas on 25th October 1772, who could be the one that married Jane Killey. In that way we have forged a relationship, completely conjectural, of course, with several Williams and Johns to choose from, but it might be true. That is not the way to proceed with genealogy, as any reader of this message will know. What is needed is a thorough study of McNameer wills and land holdings and so on, not so easy at a distance.
