Re: Manx in Ireland

My direct line of Beck's came from County Down ca 1800 to Braddan; some settled in Lonan and Rushen. According to "A Brief History of the Beck Family, in Northern Ireland" by John W. Beck, pub. 1929, [Society of Gen., London] ''two or three brothers...came with English troops to Ireland late in the 16th c.'', perhaps connected with the Ulster Plantation. I have attempted to make this connection between the IoM and No. Ire. with my family of John Beck and Mary Hastings. John and Mary both died in Braddan, but I believe were both born in No. Ire. ca 1776. Why they came to the island is a huge question? Political upheavel? Economy?
