I too have been intrigued by the Irish dimension and for the same reason: references in C17 wills to beneficiaries in Ireland. A number of references to Ireland in this period can be found in Dr J.R.Dickenson’s ‘The Lordship of Man under the Stanleys’ (1996). He writes on page 303 :’A fairly regular trade existed between the ports of eastern Ireland and the ports of the island, especially Peel,…’ and goes on to elaborate. This must have taken Manxmen to Ireland and some may have settled. According to IGI a Christopher Bridson was born in Dublin ‘Abt 1680’ but I have not verified this birth. Michael.
