I think the Gaelic name was Domnall (v. J.J. Kneen). He says Danell is a form of Donald/Domnall. Daniel of course is Bibnical, and was the form acceptable/intelligible to English speakers into which Domnall evolved in IOM. Not technically the same meaning.

There are other cases: Gilnoo was Englished into Edmund, then Edward; Jony into Judith; Gilchrist into Christopher.
