Re: Quayle Stowell
In Response To: Re: Quayle Stowell ()

the actual register has on page 59:
Flaxney son of Richard Stowell and Eliz Cannell recd/
[unreadable] bap 22 May 1812
the unreadable has defeated 3 very experienced decipherers - 4 letters starting we think with m!
However it is in a list of baptisms notified after 1817 and is out of place even within this list as the previous line is under date 13 April 1813 (all others on page are in date order so someone was copying from a list ) but reads
Margt D of Wm Corrin and ELIZ CANNELL
thus it appears that the actual register is in error.
The pages for 1812 and thereabouts are poorly kept - comments read up and down page - there is a note at start of register : If there be any children not registered in this book prior to 1817 - this error is owing to the neglect of the Sponsors & Friends who did not attend the Vicar or Clerk after Divine Service to give the name of the parents and children. The vicar gave publick notice for the purpose repeatedly.

(The Vicar was David Harrison who went onto Lonan)
