Re: Corlett connections
In Response To: Re: Corlett connections ()

Hi, Nigel!

If I may be permitted a seasonal metaphor, once again you have pulled my chestnuts out of the fire! I had just about given up on any reply to this message. William Corlet & Elinor Christian have long been on my 'possibilities' list. I guess I'll just have to keep them there... You've given me lots of food for thought, though, as usual.

The William Wood family was living at 1 Malew Street in 1880 - I guess that's probably the house in question.

If James Wood died in his 42nd year, he may be the son of Thomas Wood (christened 12 Mar 1773 in Patrick (C038241)). That's the only James for 5 years in either direction (assuming he's there in the first place...) I've been stuck on this one for a while. If that's who he is, his brothers were Archibald (4 Oct 1767) and Philip (28 Sept 1777) and sisters Catherine (16 July 1769) and Margt. (7 May 1780). The mother of Margaret is listed as Elizabeth Adams, but there are indications that she's a second wife.

This is an important one for me as I'm directly descended from James Wood, as you know. I live in hope of finding out something concrete that will allow me to get a bit farther back than the 18th Century... Maybe Santa will bring me a Wood expert for Christmas.

Am currently searching to see if Isabella and Christopher Doran had any children on the Isle. Will report back if I find any, but it's going to take a while.

Thanks so much again, Nigel. You are my greatest help - don't know where I'd be without you! (Back at square one...)

Have a wonderful Holiday!

Kindest Regards,
Barbara
